Nutrition and Cancer

What can be said about the role nutrition plays in cancer. A LOT! In fact there have been volumes written about the impact good nutrition and bad nutrition have where cancer is concerned. I will summarize as best as I can, by giving you the basics. And I also will include a link to a Cancer tutorial, comprised by R. Webster Kehr, that is, I believe, one of the best sources for battling cancer, which includes the cancer diet. It has over a 150 articles with a wealth of information about cancer alternative treatments and diet.

All of us have cancer cells in our bodies; we are usually able to keep the cells under control if our immune systems are working efficiently. However when we eat a diet that is nutritionally poor over a long period of time it affects the immune system and our bodies become unable to regulate the elimination of the cancerous cells. When one cell is allowed to multiply uncontrollably cancer may occur. It may expand into a lump that can invade healthy tissue and may enable the cancer to spread to other parts of the body.

According to the National Cancer Institute 80% of all cancers can be controlled and are due to factors that have been identified. The link between cancer and diet is not new. Cancer is most prevalent in populations that consume diets that are rich in fatty foods as well highly refined foods. Cancer is less common in populations that eat a diet rich in whole grains, fruit and vegetables.

The first basic step in becoming nutritionally sound is to understand the connection between cancer and the food we eat. A diet that is rich in whole grains, along with an array of colorful fruit and vegetables, develops an alkaline environment. Eliminating fatty foods such as red meat, whole fat milk products, refined flour and sugar is key in strengthening the immune system. These foods are acidic to the body promoting an acidic environment. An acidic body causes inflammation over time and this type of environment within the body causes the cancer cells to thrive and multiply. Cancer cells are acidic. So it is important to eat foods that help the body create an alkaline environment instead of an acidic environment.

The second basic step in becoming nutritionally sound is to understand that there are fungus found in some foods and how it can affect the production of cancer. Fungus, yeast, mold causes the cancer cell to develop microbes within the cell. The microbes enable the cancer to spread. The microbes are able to find their way into the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body spreading the cancer. The foods in a Western diet are full of fungus. Foods to avoid include: meat, dairy, sugar, trans-fats, MSG, peanuts, cashews, caffeine, corn products, high fructose fruits, vinegar, eggs, stored grains and cereals, stored potatoes, etc.

The cancer tutorial provides a list of foods to avoid. Basically fungus foods create cravings for the very foods we should avoid, often causing food allergies. It is cycle that can be hard to break. Total elimination of foods full of fungus is the best way to stop the cravings and thus the development of and spread of cancer.

The Third basic step to becoming nutritionally sound is to implement the cancer diet into your life and stick to it. The cancer diet contains foods that are exclusively alkaline. No acidic foods are allowed. "Foods that contain nutrients that kill cancer cells stop the spread of cancer, or in some other way help treat cancer." As the cancer tutorial states. Any foods that come from an animal source are forbidden. Please read the cancer diet section of cancer tutorial and start your journey to recovery.
